The time is here!

Bite Me edible desk lamp by Victor Vetterlein
I can just start to imagine when we can plough through our way eating the jungle, someone's wall like the gingerbread man story! Awesome!!

The second last photo shows the ingredients of the lamp listed on the electrical strip!! :) When unused and/not needed anymore, you can pluck the strip off and use it as compost for the garden or better yet, JUST EAT IT.

Whenever you feel sad

Pop over to Accidental Chinese Hipsters page on tumblr !! And try not to laugh! It is hands down one of the best pages on tumblr! HAHA meanwhile, don't forget the good ol' 9gag with the memes :D I personally can spend hours on end there sometimes **guilty pleasure. Oh such sad life I lead.

On a lighter note, I finally finished my studio project last Thursday! Now I only have an exam left on Wednesday. If I fail this, I do not know what else to do T.T I'll just have to repeat next year I guess :((

Oh also missing from this blog is my trip down to the state of Victoria. Whoop whoop! Yeah, I went to Melbourne. Yes, it was yet an extremely short trip but really learnt a lot about getting around the place :) and I have to say, I LOVE it there! I love the weather (even though it is very extreme!) isn't that what makes our lives more interesting. The place is very lovely too! Roads are very nicely designed and decorated with beautifully lined trees along the edges, sculptures everywhere. And I mean, everywhere!  Just look up and maybe you'll find one sticking out of a pole! The architecture is divine! There's an eclectic mix of classical (of course!) right down to Gothic revival (I heart these ones even though they're not exactly authentic). There's so many contemporary architecture popping out here and there too, especially noticeable are the RMIT buildings located in several locations throughout the city. I just cannot comprehend how in the world Melbourne has managed to save so much of its grand architectural history whilst Sydney threw most of it in the dump and replaced them with some blocky and ugly concrete buildings. WHY CITY OF SYDNEY? Because we are a more commercially-driven society here? Come to think of it, how much better could Sydney look like now if we had kept most of our older architectural gems? Assuming that Sydney may have been a wealthier state in the past, how much more grandeur did we really have in comparison to Melbourne?

If any, (I may be wrong in this) I'm going to compare it with Rome and Naples. As everyone may know already, Pompeii and Herculaneum (Mt. Vesuvius eruption story) are/were located in the Bay of Naples. In those areas we can already see traces of greatness in architecture. Of course, Rome would have been maybe 10 times better but sadly, most of that has eroded over time. It is just lucky for us that Pompeii and Herculaneum were preserved under the debris so that we'd been able to study them more closely. So what I am trying to say is that how much have we lost and why did Sydney bulldoze those things? I know why really, because we wanted to make way for the office blocks used by companies who are our money trees. But why did we not value these things a little higher? They are part of our history and to be able to move forward I don't necessarily think destroying the old is always the right choice. Can you imagine having another 2 or 3 more of QVB or the Strand Arcade. I certainly wouldn't mind it! Dammit. (Yes, this is a fact. Sydney had more arcades back in the day, and no doubt they would have been decorated in the similar lavish manner as the two we still have now too. Don't you just long to see the other ones too?)

Too long of a post today. Photos may be coming soon. Maybe after I finish my final exam.

Ciao! xx

Breeak

The long awaited break has finally arrived. Now that I'm suddenly no longer expected to attend any classes, I feel as if I have too much free time til' DIY projects even seem somewhat probable. And I know, they're not. Dammit.

But love Maegan is one hectic website!! This is why social media/internet is useful for. I've been hearing things like 'internet should be banned!' - Katy Perry, 'today is the worst time to be famous b/c of the spread of global media, internet and communication in general' - TV. I have had enough of it. Yes, I do realise that internet may pose to be deadly and damaging type of media/communication for some people. Come to think of it people, who really are these people? Usually not those that are just normal people who have done nothing wrong in general. I am not including those that have been bullied cause that's another whole lot of story.

Nowadays, internet has become the number one communication option between us and my other family members overseas. If not for internet, there is no way we could have skype chats, facebook to see each other's faces on a regular basis. So really, it really is an important device for families.

Not to mention, the sheer amount of knowledge that could be gained from it. Photoshop skills/ other software skills and even to makeup skills. And they're all free! It is now so much easier for those who are not doing very well to learn all of these skills they probably wouldn't if internet had not been established yet.

Anyway, enough with daily ramblings.

One of those days

Currently in state of denial to start doing assignments and homework. Just because I have no more drive and strength in me after a full day of work. It's all getting out of hand to be honest. I have no intention whatsoever to go back to the state I was in last semester. I hated it then, and I can't repeat the same mistake again. I have to do better this time around. Should I quit it now?

Steven Holl - Daeyang Gallery and House

Steven Holl is currently one of my favourites architect of all time, alongside Richard Neutra of course. I love his works, they're simple, clean designs but I feel that he places so much care in choosing materials and finishes. That is why all of his architecture look immaculately made.

TED Talks

In the last couple of weeks my tutor has been showing us clips from Ted Talks and I have to say, it has been an eye-opener. Now all the times I have spent on youtube seem so useless and wasteful. If anything, this will be THE website I will be visiting whenever I have spare time.

Yi Ning Korean Restaurant

Recently I had time to have dinner with friends at Yi Ning Korean Restaurant. The place is a little isolated; from outside it looks rather drab and possibly even looks scary at night. Rest assured, this place has been one of my family's favourites since at least 5 years ago! I am still not sure why they are still not getting the attention they deserve to be getting. The food is reasonably priced and come in such a large portion. Their set meal for 2 can definitely feed 3 to 4 petite Asian mouths.

We ordered the set menu which consisted of Black Bean Noodle and Chilli Chicken for $38. Both were fantastic! We also ordered the spicy seafood soup (not pictured) and it was really good as well! The soup was filled with many seafood goodies like octopus, squid as well as some mussel clamps too. While I was there I heard a couple of Korean people thanking the chef by complimenting how delicious the food were. I'm not Korean but I'm pretty sure that 'mah-shi-da'(?) means delicious. There's some solid reason why you should definitely give this restaurant a visit! Also check out a review by the local paper here.

P.S. They have an underfloor heating mat which is just great in winter!

Pho Nam Vietnamese Noodle House Restaurant

There is a new Vietnamese Restaurant that just opened not long ago in my area. About two weeks ago, I visited the place and ordered broken rice with pork chop accompanied with Vietnamese white coffee. This is the first place I've been to where this whole dish had been put together so neatly! Taste wise it was fine but obviously cannot rival my favourite one in Cabramatta. My parents had their Pho for merely around $8! Not too bad of a deal for Vietnamese food around my place. Taste wise it was tolerable. Would I go back for a quick Vietnamese food crave? Yes of course.

Photoshop Issue

So after how ever many assignments I have done throughout this semester, I came to realisation that I'd rather write essays everyday than to do anything on photoshop! I just hate that annoying program, I hate how I'm so not good at it. It just hinders my work, my design, my vision!

Essays on the other hand, are just something I've missed doing so much after leaving high school. I also miss doing my Maths, Japanese, Ancient History and English homework! I feel that I've gone really dumb. I mean, I probably don't even remember how to do calculus anymore. What about chemistry? Nope. All gone too. In many ways, I feel that this course is not furthering my knowledge in anything just yet. Everything seems to me to be so abstract and artsy. Nothing wrong with that, I just prefer something that needs a little bit more thinking.

So here's the question. Is this course right for me? Let me get back to that at the end of the year when applications for UNSW open again.

Baby It's Cold Outside

Tomorrow is the big day. This history assignment will be due for the hand in! Which is why I stayed until 9.30 at uni today.

I skipped dinner so I went to the vending machine to see what I could get. As I was looking for my coins, a lady said to me whilst putting her plate of food on a pile in the bin ,'those bikkies are still good, you can have them if you want.' Aww, how nice. I had such an urge to bring them upstairs back to the studio and just munch them away while I try to finish my models.

In the end, I stopped myself from doing so as soon as I picked it up from the bin and saw some insects flying around the other rubbish. I was not that desperate just yet.

This so reminds me of last year when my whole group were just starving and we retreated to scavenging leftover food from a gathering at the exhibition space. The bread was so dry, it was not pleasant but still satisfying to the stomach nonetheless. T'was a jolly good time. lol I do miss unsw!

Okay, I'll now go on to finish up this model before bed. Hopefully it'll be sometime before 2/3am :)

Reading

Reading blogs just give me the urge to go out, travel and do something different for a change. I cannot stay at one place for too long! As soon as my last assignment was handed in, all I could think about was travel. Of course, looking for a travel companion is not an easy matter. Not having money, time and not getting their parents' consent are the most important issues of all. Me, on the other hand seems like I'm all set to go anytime. One: I will be on holidays in a week, two: I work and save all of my money towards something like this (i.e. travel & holiday), three: my parents will definitely let me go, I just need to somehow put it nicely to them. To be quite honest, I do not really understand the excuses of some about how their parents don't let them do this and that. I feel that if you really really wanted to do/go somewhere, if you had that 'tekad bulat' -in Indonesian, no matter what they say, if you know it's the best for you, you'd do it anyway. But perhaps, Im just being inconsiderate and ignorant of their situation? I don't know. Anyway, back to thinking about this dreaded history assignment due soon.

Happy Rainy Monday!

Intention

I never intended to make this blog a place to vent my anger but there has been some disappointment in the last couple of weeks. What can I do? Although I am so happy uni will soon end.. in a month D: it's okay, at least it's kind of soon. Then I'll be free to do whatever I want! I cannot wait to turn this blog around and post some quality material. That's if I can find any! Haha but I'm sure that if I have all the free time I will be able to do fun things again. Or not. Since I'll be busy working. I want money too! Now I'm torn in between.. Haha it's okay, earning money is fun for me. It makes it even more challenging when I'm juggling two jobs at once! Fun times ahead? More like even busier times ahead! Gotta keep moving :)

Happy Wednesday! x

Surprise Visit

This must've happened about two weeks back right after I gave up on my Communications assignment. My dear friend, who rarely has time to play, texted me and asked if I was free. Of course, after the disappointment I felt from my tutor's critique made me wanna have fun even more! So I agreed to go and explore Sydney. But first, I needed to fill up my tummy with yummy nasi goreng that I had been craving since forever. Note: nasi goreng at eating world is no good at all!

Then I wanted to go and see The Star just because it's been recently renovated and now houses one of Adriano Zumbo's patisserie! It was my first time there too! Soo many poker tables and roulette tables and slot machines! I had fun watching people burn their money away while secretly judging them in my head. There was a man who burnt his money fast because he gambled it on the $100 table, didn't even have a sit  cause it seemed like money meant nothing to him! Later I found him on the $30 table if I'm not wrong, but it was definitely of a lesser value one. Totally meant he lost his money right..

Then we searched for Zumbo patisserie and we bought 5 macarons; red wine & raspberry, salted caramel, popcorn, watermelon and blackened vanilla. OMG only one tasted good for me! Salted caramel was the best! Red wine was the worst of all, it tasted off! I just hated it. Vanilla was fine but watermelon and popcorn were still a little bit better. I think our $12.50 could have been spent more wisely.

We then made our way back to town hall / kinokuniya and not long after, he was a little impatient to eat the macarons so we went down to the newly refurbished foodcourt underneath TGV to eat it there. It was so fun picking out which to eat and seeing each other's reaction after taking a bite! Especially the red wine and raspberry one! Soon I realised I hadn't done my notes for history yet so I took my leave to go home. Anyway I had a nice time catching up with my friend doing unplanned things. And all these written up in the midst of my procrastination over my comms assignment due in 2 days! Good luck me!

Get me out of here!

Ok, I now officially cannot care any less about my assignment that's due in 2 days. Imagine yourself learning to be a fashion designer, wouldn't the course teach you how to sew to make clothes? Or a chef perhaps, wouldn't the course teach you how to cook in order for you to produce a certain dish? Well, teaching basic things like that in my uni is basically non-existent. But still they give us assignments that require the use of computer softwares such as autocad, photoshop and indesign in the very least. Some even use revit and autodesk for all I know. It is incomprehensible how easy they can get by in doing this course! It's like they can finish doing one assignment in one day. This has been proven by a guy in my class who has done tafe before. Other kids take days just to produce something on photoshop and to put it all together. i.e. me! and the quality is nothing and just awful in my opinion.

Communications is even worse! At the time where our whole semester's work is assessed with some photoshop images, they never taught us the software in details. We had lectures but the lack of notes given as well as the fast pace of the lecturer whilst showing us the steps just taught us nothing. My tutor blatantly said 'There is no time for us to teach you photoshop, you have to learn it yourself. Get some books and watch youtube videos.' No kidding!

So where are we supposed to go with this? I am so ready to give it all up and do nothing. I might just take some tafe courses and see what I can do later on. I'm that fed up with all of this.

As you do

I have now been putting off my work that is due in 2 days. I'm feeling like I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Will I ever make it? Do I like it that much? I don't know for sure to be honest. The course has not stopped my passion for it, though it's lessened it in such a way that I began to think it's not worth carrying on anymore. I truthfully expected better out of it. I hoped that it would have taught and aided me in the technical side of things so that when I do design something, my technical ability won't hinder the quality of the finished product. This is my biggest problem of all.

It is now week 10 and they have never taught us how to use any software like photoshop, indesign, cad, autodesk, revit etc properly! All we had were 2 or 3 lectures on photoshop where the lecturer just blazed through in making something that we never even had the chance to properly write down what steps he took exactly! I am not kidding. I expected a whole lot better out of Sydney University. Never been taught how to draft, they told us to look at some books and watch videos on youtube to teach ourselves how to use these softwares! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I'm paying you $1000 per subject and we have to self-learn on how to use softwares just so we can keep up with whatever assignment you're giving us? That is rubbish. I can spell it again to make it clearer, R-U-B-B-I-S-H.

I won't even be surprised if I ever failed at this course. And if I really did, I'm moving back to UNSW pronto. I don't even mind starting from semester 1 again there! What was I thinking when I put this course as my first preference??

Dinner Night

I was feeling a little down again today, actually quite awful and frustrated by the time I met my friends. It may have started out very early in the day where I was just too excited to have finished measuring out the building very quickly and soon realised that someone was not very detailed in recording all the measurements done. And therefore, we had to go back and measure some parts of it again. Anyway, it was still all good. Until.. I got onto the bus and picked a seat at the back of the bus where there was one very stinky person. I was trapped! The bus was so full, people were already starting to fill up the aisle. I was in this stupid condition during my 10-15 minutes bus ride because of heavy traffic! It was just plain awful.

Not until I reached the place where my friends and I were meant to meet up that I got really frustrated. They haven't left yet. There was no way I would have waited at least 30 minutes for them to get there. It was quite a dodgy place you see. I did say at one point to forget it and just have dinner on another night but because I didn't want to disappoint  my friends, I still agreed to have it tonight. So I proceeded to stop at a 'better' station and decided I'd go to the toilet during my 30min wait for them. OH MY. As I queued up, a person came running towards the toilet and spewed right next to me. It was as if he could not hold it in anymore. As he opened the toilet door he spewed once again on the door!! At this point, I was really grossed out and was so close to just leave all together.

Anyway, I found the nearest priceline and totally forgot all about it. I was in total drugstore makeup haven so I was quite content, trying out testers and finding new shades of lipsticks. All the things that could make a girl happy. Once I reached the station to get on the train, my friend just would not pick up her phone. I really didn't care anymore and thought I'd jump into the first train I see. But I met her and we went to have dinner at El Jannah. The place was not so packed yet but it was already very busy. Our food came out in less than 5 minutes I would say, it was the fastest customer service ever. Maybe even better than buying a burger! The chicken had very crispy and very very very salty skin. It was good when combined with the yummy garlic sauce. My plate also had pickled gherkins and radish. I, for one, hate pickled stuff (an exception for Korean pickled radish) and so there was no chance I was going to eat all of it.

All was well until an African male who seemed to have been so stoned, came to our table (sat next to me) and started speaking gibberish, asking for money. Oh, I've had nightmares about things like these! Imagine if he had a knife and stabbed me if I didn't give him all my valuables. Or if he assaulted me! Or him and his group of friends (on the other side of the street) bashed us up or kidnapped us! Oh, the drama of living in Sydney's notorious western suburbs.

Ok, now we made way to this dessert place. It was nice, everything was sweet except for the ice cream. They weren't the best in my opinion but some of the sweets I really liked and some, well let's just say, not so much my favourites. I would probably not go back there again just because I don't feel like it's worth my travel time and there are shops around here that make those too. It was a good night although I am now realising that it was best to have had this another time because I still have not done the things needed by tomorrow! No sleep tonight..

MBFW Jenny Kee

I'm not having too good of a day today. My fear is that tomorrow will be even worse! I have a mountain high amount of homework to be done and yet I can't find any motivation to start any of it. Anyway, here's what I made in my "spare" time today.

MBFW SYDNEY 2012

Very much excited this year because I am now more in touch, or rather, have more interest in fashion than ever before. Especially being a Sydney-sider myself, this fashion week definitely is closer to heart. Over the years, I have always put Melbourne as the fashion destination of Australia and have always blamed Sydney for always missing out on the best things. You name it, Australian Open, Australian Formula One Grand Prix races, Australian MotoGP, Melbourne Cup and the list goes on and on. At least for now, we know we have the world's attention by bringing forward some of the most famous bloggers on earth to attend the show such as Susie Bubble, Bryanboy, Rumi Neely, Phil Oh (the photographer) and probably some more which I may not know of. Not to mention, we now have Nicole Warne who is just a star blogger. Let's get going with some of my favourites from the whole fashion week.

The Experience

Yesterday, I mustered up the courage to go ahead with the procedure. I knew it would be painful but I felt like I needed to give it a try. The needles were the most painful part of it all and the rest was done in total numbness.

I did hear the surgeon's knife slicing my skin and it was not long before he started stitching it up. It was all done in merely minutes!

I had the chance to look at the fresh stitched-up wound today and felt so proud of the guts I had to go right ahead with the procedure! Never in my life have I had stitches. Let alone 4 of them!

I cannot wait until the stitches are removed this Monday to reveal a slightly better-healed wound. I hope the scar will go away quickly..

Oh, and here are some of the things I cannot/should really avoid doing at the moment:
- Talking
- Smiling & Laughing
- Sneezing & Coughing
Basically anything that requires my face muscle to move around my mouth and nose area. How sad..
So I've decided not to attend classes until Monday, in case I start talking & laughing too much that my stitches become undone and the wound opens up to reveal a crater of flesh in the middle of my face! I don't want that!

Big Hello

Good day! On this balmy night, I would like to start something new. A blog where I could document glimpses of my life, especially in the midst of my busy schedule. It would be great to have something to look at later in life, I suppose. It's my life's journey, you can call it.
