Oh Granada

My first post in June turned out to be somewhat of a recollection of my Europe trip. I had a lot of fun making it and looking at the photos again after a while. The next set of photos will be from Granada - Alhambra. The quaint town in, or maybe not so quaint but laid-back tourist town. It was so cool to feel like we belonged to the 'tourist' group again on this trip. We finally heard native English speakers around us! Totally made me feel safer than anything else.

So Alhambra, it is a place definitely to visit while in Spain. You know we were so close in not even visiting this place as we thought we would much prefer taking a trip to the south of France instead. I'm sure it's lovely up there but I feel so lucky now that I had the chance to visit this place. I've seen it in books and learnt about it in history class but I never really was interested in this type of place. Maybe the whole Islam in Spain thing, I never really understood it. But rest assured, I have learnt much more about it during this trip. You see, much of Spain still has the influence of the Islam rulership back in the day. For one, the way people pronounce things would probably be the easiest to spot, there is just a hint of Arabic in there. Architecture wise, of course, there are still many Moslem inspired buildings still standing today and that mix between 'East and West' architecture, so to say, is what intrigues me about Spain. How is it that the society had its roots in Islamic culture, could then stem into the Roman Catholic? The two contrasting societies that somehow moulded together and became the base of modern Spanish culture.

I was rather disappointed because there were just way too many people there, even in winter. It was so challenging to capture a decent photo without taking a part of someone's head. I was even hard just to keep up with the tour group because it was impossible to walk around with ease. Anyway, it was still memorable nonetheless.

Generalife garden next up. So pretty, it's a shame I was there in winter. I cannot imagine how much better it would look in spring. This is actually a really good reason why I should come back! :)
Until the next post!
